Vancouver Island Athletic Association Awards

Vancouver Island Track and Field Series Awards Information

To qualify for Island Series Awards athletes must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Compete in 4 of the 6 Island Series meets
  • One meet must be the Alberni, Courtenay or the Nanaimo meet
  • The VIAA Pentathlon/Weight Pentathlon is counted as one meet
  • For Best of Four awards - total points of four best performances from four different meets
  • For Run, Jump Throw awards - total points of best Run, best Jump and best Throw during series

The points totals are calculated as follows:

  • There will be a performance points table for each event and age group, some points for placing and 10 points for competing.
  • The same scoring system as was used in 2008 will be used in 2010 with some new points values for the new events for 14 year old athletes and older.
  • Team Awards are based on the points totals of all the athletes in a given club

Club Achievements

Our club has not yet made it into the Guiness Book of Records, however, we do have a pretty good "track" record of achievements. Here are just a few of the more recent notables:

  1. Over 60% of our members return each year for another season with the club
  2. Our club hosts the Garriock Meet each year. This year we had a record breaking 465 athletes attend
  3. Several of our club members won gold, silver and bronze medals at the 2012 Provincial High School
  4. The girls seniors 4 X 100m relay team  from Francis Kelsey, with 3/4 CVAC members, won Gold and broke the Island record. Fastest time in 10 years.
  5. Chicago Bains broke the Bantam record for the Island in 80m Hurdles
