BC Athletics has cancelled all track and field events, clinics and training sessions scheduled up to May 30th. This includes all club practices and individual training sessions where a coach is involved. This will be reevaluated as things progress.

At this time the CVAC executive has decided to cancel the 2020 season, we will be refunding all registration fees and deposits collected. While it was hoped the season could be saved it’s clear now this will not happen and issuing full refunds is the right thing to do. We appreciate everyone’s patients while we take the next few days to arrange the refund cheques. Please be aware that none of our athletes, coaches, or officials are covered by BC Athletics insurance and no coaches are to participate in any training sessions. If an athlete wishes to train they must do so on their own and adhere to the guidelines set out by the BC Medical Health Officer.

If it appears there might be a chance for a reduced 2020 season we will open registration for those athletes that want to take part.

Be careful, stay healthy and keep positive.

I am sure this comes as no surprise to anyone, but we are going to postpone the CVAC track season until we are confident it is safe for everyone involved. We are not canceling the season just delaying it.

As with many other activities this was not an easy decision to make but it has become very clear that it is the right thing to do. Given that track and field is an outdoor activity with room for good separation between athletes and coaches it was hoped that a way could be found to bring the season together. But unfortunately with each option that was considered the risk was unacceptable.

The escalating events within our own province and around the world can be difficult for younger kids to understand. For children, getting outside and being active is a wonderful antidote for the stress and uncertainty they may be feeling. I am saddened that we will not be able to provide this for them at this time. But I’m sure they will have more than enough energy when the season starts up.

I am sorry some of you may have received this message twice.

There are a couple of new faces on the CVAC board, we’re pleased to welcome Julia Hengster as Coaching Coordinator and Tammy Isaachsen as Secretary. Everyone is looking forward to their input and fresh ideas. Equally important is that fact the Tammy has some big shoes to fill, quietly in the background Susan Else has filled the roll of Secretary for a few years, she has always been there when needed and did an amazing job for the club. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Susan on everyone’s behalf for all she has done.
As for the rest of the board everyone was more than willing to continue in their current positions:
President - Todd Blumel
Vic President - Charles Lazenby
Secretary - Tammy Isaachsen
Tresurer - Danny Meyer
Coaching Coordinator - Julia Hengster
Registrar - Leslie McGee
Equipment Coordinator - Mike Dailey
Volunteer Coordinator - Jodi Buttle

For those that were not able to attend registration in person on February 12, the registration forms are now available in the Membership section of the website. If you are planning to register for the 2020 CVAC season I urge you to do so as soon as possible as registrations will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. While there are still some openings available we will be capping the registrations at 100 athletes. Keep in mind we have hit our capacity every year for the past ten years there is no reason that this year will be any different.

Over the last few months I’ve been tweaking the CVAC website (https://www.cvac-jaguars.com/), you may notice things change or aren’t exactly perfect, bare with me, I’ll get it right. The website is the place to go for any information you are looking for, if you can’t find it there send me an email and I’ll do my best to send you in the right direction. For the most part anything I put on the website I will also send out through the group email, it’s the most efficient method I have to get hold of everyone all at once. I promise not to fill your inboxes with mindless dribble.
If you don’t want to receive group emails from CVAC simply unsubscribe from the list by going to the following: https://www.cvac-jaguars.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=65
